About Me
Kia Ora, my name is Aaron Davy. As I sit down to write this I am 39 years old and I have been in the fitness industry for just over a decade. I studied Sport and Exercise Science with a minor in Nutrition at Massey University. I have also accumulated many other level 3&4 Training Qualifications over the years.
I didn't really know what I wanted to say in my About Me section. I could go on about all my qualifications and experience and what I have achieved over the years in the industry, but does anyone actually care? Perhaps, but I think often not. So instead I am going to share my fitness story, how I ended up in the industry and why. Then at the end if you make it that far I will share some photos covering the full scope of my transformation over the years.
My journey really began about 13 years ago when I was about 26 years old. I had been training for about 3 years at this point, and hadn't seen a lot of success despite trying a few trainers here and there. When I started I was a weedy 58kg (128lbs) and at this point I was about 62kg (136lbs). I was working as a chef at a high end restaurant in Wellington where the Sous Chef there was a monster of a man and introduced me to a quite elite limited membership gym that he went to. He got me a membership there despite it being full and I signed up with a trainer who turned out to be the man that changed my life.
When I signed up I requested the largest trainer they had (I look back and laugh at this now but that is exactly what I said) and so I met Shane. He lived up to my request and was a wall of muscle, extremely well educated and experience. He asked what my goal was and I told him I wanted to put on 10KG of muscle in a year. He didnt laugh at me, but said that was quite an ambitious goal but possible if I worked hard and kept my nutrition up.
What a year that was! I worked my ass off and never missed a session despite working 60hrs minimum per week (I used to go between lunch and dinner service normally, as the gym was handy to work). My trainer was fantastic and used to explain things to me and walk me through why we were doing certain things. He would draw graphs on the whiteboard for me to help understand new concepts. Anyway I will skip all the highs and lows of that time but at the end when I weighed in I just scraped in at 10kgs muscle gained (I was 72kg and still very lean - photo included at bottom. He was as happy as I was. Not long after that he left to pursue a differnt career, and left a training hole I was unable to fill. Thats when I knew what I wanted to do. That man had changed my life and I wanted to do that for otehrs. I quit my job and moved cities to study at University.
I started Project Spartan while I was still in University, and it has been running in one form or another ever since. I have been a trainer in large commercial gyms, trained online, made videos and helped a lot of people along the way. I am now 94kg lean (207lbs) and I have trained and become personally profficent in powerlifting, bodybuilding/hypertrophy, olympic lifting and crossfit. These days I have my own small private gym where I take limited clients on and they all have a great time, and I wanted to share that with a much wider client base. So now you can buy my programs - all proven to work, that have been tried and tested or sign on to my subscription model and get the full experience of having me as a trainier from anywhere in the world.
Nga Mihi and thank you for reading my story, I hope it inspires you to be a better human.
